Born in Tilburg, the Netherlands, Ruud Tijssens studied Chemical Technology at the University of Eindhoven and Delft. In 1986 he started working as process technologist at Melkunie Holland. In his first years he was involved in the technological developments around several dairy products and its co-products. After a few years he was Biotechnology Manager at the research laboratories of Melkunie Holland.

From 1991 till 2001 Mr. Tijssens worked in several management functions in the product development laboratories of MONA, a well known dairy indulgence brand, with a strong focus on consumer value.

In 2001 Mr. Tijssens became managing director of CCL b.v. (since June 2012 NutriControl b.v.), a medium size laboratory focussing on the area of agricultural feed and food products. The laboratory was in that time a joint venture between Cehave Landbouwbelang and DMV International. After take over of 100% of the shares of the laboratory by Cehave Landbouwbelang, Mr. Tijssens became more involved with the feed business. Besides his responsibilities in CCL, Mr. Tijssens became in 2007 director R&D for Cehave Landbouwbelang, and in 2008 he became responsible for the Corporate Sustainability policy within the co-operative. In that phase Cehave Landbouwbelang launched, beside other introductions, the innovative pig feeding system Air Line and Air Line [2.0].
After the merger in 2010 with Agrifirm Mr Tijssens is working as director R&D and CSR at Agrifirm and was responsible for the laboratory activity of Agrifirm, in CCL Nutricontrol. From January 2012 his main task was Director Corporate Affairs and in that same year he transferred his duties as Director Nutricontrol to someone else.

Since 2011 he is active as Chairman of the Taskforce Sustainability of FEFAC, project leader on the transition of sustainable soy in the Netherlands and chairman of a large research consortium (Feed4Foodure) from Dutch Feed Industry, Wageningen University and Research and the Dutch Government (so-called Topsector project).

As of June 2013 Mr. Tijssens is appointed to President of FEFAC.
